A gripping psychological thriller about the deadly secrets your children can keep …
Sue Jackson has the perfect family but when her teenage daughter Charlotte deliberately steps in front of a bus and ends up in a coma she is forced to face a very dark reality.
Retracing her daughter’s steps she finds a horrifying entry in Charlotte’s diary and is forced to head deep into Charlotte’s private world. In her hunt for evidence, Sue begins to mistrust everyone close to her daughter and she’s forced to look further, into the depths of her own past.
Sue will do anything to protect her daughter. But what if she is the reason that Charlotte is in danger?
The blurb on the novel's Amazon page states that the book is "perfect for fans of Before I Go to Sleep, Gone Girl and Sophie Hannah."
These ringing endorsements are not empty hyperbole. Taylor's novel skillfully weaves two different time lines together to produce an intriguing, moving and a times disturbing story.
When Sue Jackson's daughter, Charlotte, is run over by a bus it soon becomes apparent that it was not an accident. The question is why would her apparently happy child deliberately do such a thing?
In an attempt to discover her daughter's motivation, Sue reads her diary and stumbles across an upsetting entry that leads her to wonder if she herself may be to blame.
The novel is a masterful exploration of the secrets that families hide and how events you thought consigned to distant history may one day come back and destroy your present.
Towards the end it becomes apparent who the protagonist must be, yet Taylor's skillful story-telling is such that rather than this being a problem, instead it becomes a pleasure as the story winds towards its satisfying conclusion.
I highly recommend it and I will be adding her other titles to my TBR bookcase.

Five years earlier Jane and her then best friends went on holiday but what should have been the trip of a lifetime rapidly descended into a nightmare that claimed the lives of two of the women.
Jane has tried to put the past behind her but someone knows the truth about what happened. Someone who won’t stop until they’ve destroyed Jane and everything she loves . . .
